If you follow my Instastories, you’ll know that I have a new hobby, I have been getting into yoga.
I have been meaning to give yoga a try for years, it was just one of those things that I never got around to. Until now.
A friend mentioned that she’d spotted a class local to us at a time that suited both of us. I ordered my mat and booked in, a little unsure about what I was letting myself in for but determined to at least give it a go. I think I’ve been put off in the past by convincing myself that I wouldn’t be able to do it, but figured there was only one way to find out.
The class that I have been going along to is Kundalini yoga. This is quite different, I understand, to many other forms of yoga. It is accessible to people of all ages, abilities, and skill levels and is a dynamic, powerful yoga for wellness. This article explains all about Kundalini yoga if you’re interested in finding out more.
I’m aware that there are many different forms of yoga and classes out there, but I am pleased that my first experience of yoga has been Kundalini yoga as it has drawn me in with its accessibility. The class that I go along to is run by two lovely women and we practice in a dark room lit only be fairy and dimmed lights, and it has such a relaxed atmosphere. We are encouraged to only try what we feel comfortable with, though I have found that I can do all movements, just not necessarily well! But I think that is where time and effort come in, and I will strive to improve.
Along with the class, I have been picking up a few extra sessions of Kundalini yoga over on YouTube throughout my week when I can fit it in. Interestingly, I am finding that I am managing to ‘fit in’ more and more sessions as the weeks have gone by as I can feel it making a difference and I am enjoying it, so of course I make the time for it. I couldn’t make it along to last week’s class as it was Boo’s birthday so of course I wanted to stay home for the evening. But I did find that I missed going along and the satisfaction and sense of well-being after the session, so I have picked up an extra YouTube class to make up for it.
As I am sure you can tell, I am really enjoying it. It’s something more than just exercise, too. I am so pleased that we decided to go along to that first class, and I look forward to many more. It has the added benefit of taking some time just for me, as with my other new hobby, and developing new interests is always good for the soul, I think.
Have you tried yoga? How did you find it?
