Last week I spent some time making plans and setting goals for the coming year.
I think it’s important to take time out to do this as it can be easy to just bob along when you’re working for yourself.
Bobbing along can be great, but I find that goal setting helps to refocus me and motivate me with clear, and in some cases, new directions.
As I regularly share with you my blog progress reports, I thought it would make sense to share the goals I am working towards and I’d also love to get your input as after all, I’m creating for you!
I could easily make a list of twenty to thirty goals and things that I’d like to do. When you run a blog and your own business, there is always something more you could be doing, always!
The problem with this is that it can lead to overwhelm and doing little bits here there and everywhere and not really making the significant change you’re hoping for. This year I have decided to really think about those two or three things that are as I want them to be and keep on going with those, and then three things that I would like to work on and develop.
For me, this keeps me on an even keel. I have those areas I’m comfortable with and can keep on enjoying and creating in, and then those areas where I need to challenge myself to do more. It strikes the balance for me between achievable and motivational. So onto those goals…
Firstly, there are those things that I am keen to keep just as they are. I’m finding blog posts going up twice a week, usually on Mondays and Wednesdays works well for me. I then plan to continue sending out my newsletter each Friday.
The biggest change will be to put more of my time into my YouTube channel. For those of you who have been following along with me over recent months, you’ll know this has been a hit and miss area for me, which is why I am making this my number one priority as I am keen to make this work.
Watch this space for a fun video soon with the added bonus of a papery giveaway to help me to kick-start this, and I then plan to upload weekly going forward. Do subscribe to come along for the journey!
My Patreon memberships will be my next area of focus as I’d really love to grow these over the coming months.
I love the community over there and I have fun coming up with the monthly activities and designing the monthly writing paper. The Bring Back Paper memberships are something I’m proud of and thoroughly enjoy and I’d like to get more and more people involved with them.
I see them as a chance for papery-me time for people so I’m taking the time to think about how I might be able to grow these and this will be my second key goal for the year.
Thirdly, will be my Etsy store, Jocelyn Loves Paper. This ticks along nicely right now, but I want it to do more than tick along. And in order for that to happen, I need to shift it up in my list of priorities.
There needs to be more new products, added on a regular basis, and I need to improve my promotion of the range.
There are so many more things I’d like to do. For example I have in mind a few new blog series’ and there’s a course I’d like to create and launch, but I want to be super clear on these key goals so that my time and creativity go into those first and foremost. I’ll consider other ideas as and when I am satisfied that I have got these areas where I want them to be.
I’ve put together a survey here for you, it should take no more than a couple of minutes to complete it and I’d really appreciate hearing your opinions. You’re also always welcome to comment below or email me at any time if you’d rather feed back to me that way.
Thanks for taking the time to do that!
What do you think of these goals?
Wishing you the best on your goals.
Thanks so much!
I love these goals, especially the ones you’d like to keep the same as I think it’s important to see what’s working and not change something if it’s not broken.
Goals are something that I need to get back into as have forgotten about them this year, so this post has inspired me to get back into them next year.
Good luck!

Absolutely, and I think it’s good to stop and recognise those things that are going well.
Best of luck getting back to your goals!
