Siblings – August

These last few weeks have been all about sunny days, garden fun and my two playing along with each other more than ever, with no preschool for Boo.

Little Man is now 23 months old, and Boo is 4 years and 10 months. Their relationship is wonderful to watch. Yes, there is the odd scream and squabble, but it tends to be over within seconds, invariably put behind them with a sorry (or ‘warry’ from Little Man) and a cuddle. And off they go again, Boo guiding (read: bossing) Little Man, and Little Man sometimes adoringly following her, sometimes studiously ignoring her, either way, she continues blithely onwards and both are content. There is a lot more imaginary play in their games now, as Little Man grasps the concept well and enjoys it, so there are lots of giggles and it really does keep his attention. And then with the great weather we’ve been having, they’ve been loving being outside, on gorgeous days out..

My kids are so happy running free outside. Give them a huge lawn and they have to run on it. Give them a play area and they’re in their element! And on a warm day, they’re desperate to get out into the garden and play, so we’ve had the tuff spot out, toys on the blanket, trampolining, the sandpit, messy play, bug hunts, and of course, ice lollies a plenty! We’ve still another few weeks before Boo starts school, and we plan to make the most of them. School holidays are all about siblings having fun, I think.

They’re just little playmates, aren’t they? Mine are 2 yrs, 11 months apart, just the same as my little brother and I, and we still get on well!

  1. I love the photo of them running and skipping, perfectly captured! They always look happy together (even though I’m sure they have their moments!) Must be nice to see them play together more and more xx

They are happy together, fortunately! There’s the odd shouting screaming moments, but they’re short lived – phew! It’s great to see their play develop x

It’s lovely to see them enjoying their time together – little partners in crime! Thanks for hosting x

  2. I always find parenting so much easier outdoors! Your photos are beautiful and I am so looking forward to this stage with our kids where they can just run and play together x

  3. Oh I’m with you all the way, the summer is definitely for getting outside and running around – it looks like your two have been making the most of all our lovely sunshine and I love the picture of them running around after each other!

  4. You’re so right – holidays are all about siblings. They have so little time in term time, with school and different after school clubs and playdates and so on – the holidays are a brilliant time for them to just enjoy each other. Here’s to the next three weeks!

    1. My daughter’s yet to start school, she starts in September, so I’m very aware of these ‘last’ 3 weeks!
