A few weeks ago Skinstation got in touch with me and asked me if I’d like to try one of their products. It was completely up to me to choose something, and as you know, I do like my skincare, so it was good to browse their site.
I chose to try SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF, as I had heard good reviews. It’s one of their Vitamin C serums.
“The SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF is a powerful antioxidant face serum that helps deliver a firmer, brighter and more youthful appearance. Containing 2% Phloretin, 10% pure vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid) and 0.5% Ferulic Acid, this unique formula delivers enhanced protection against atmospheric skin ageing such as UVB/UVA rays.”
On ordering this, I did already have a Vitamin C serum in my skincare routine so my skin is used to using it and I’ve never had a problem reacting to it.
I had been using Melano CC Vitamin C Essence and my skin liked it. I knew I wanted to give a SkinCeuticals Vitamin C a try as I had read so many good things about them.
I selected this particular one as I felt it would best suit my skin type of oily to combination skin.
My SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF arrived swiftly from SkinStation.
The packaging was good, I had no concerns that my product could have been damaged during posting.
The box itself details the product and there are instructions for usage on the reverse. These instructions are also on the bottle itself.
First Impressions
It comes as a 30ml bottle, which I think is usual serum size in my experience.
The cap is sealed and the dropper provided separately.
It’s recommended that you use 4 to 5 drops of this each day after cleansing, and the dropper works well at dispensing the drops quickly without being too much or too runny.
You then rub the drops into your skin and allow them to sink in for a moment before moving on with your next product, probably a moisturiser at this stage.
It has quite a strong scent, which is fine with me, but thought it worth mentioning as I know some people are scent averse or can be put off by certain smells. It’s tricky to describe, but I’d say it has an initial chemical smell that moves into more of a coffee like scent.
It spreads smoothly across my skin and sinks in and dries easily and quickly.
My Thoughts
I have now been using this serum for 3 weeks, every morning after cleansing and toning, just before my moisturiser.
My skin is used to vitamin C so I used this daily from the first day. I did notice that my skin felt a little more dry after a couple of days, so you might need to up hydration a little when using this.
I would say, some people’s skin does not react well to Vitamin C so go steady with this one if it’s your first time using it. Perhaps ease into using it every few days initially to check your skin is happy with it.
I wasn’t too sure what to expect in terms of a discernible difference with this, being an antioxidant. I knew it would be working hard protecting my skin, as antioxidants are meant to, but would I actually see anything happening?
Well, yes, it seems I can.
The first thing I noticed after a few days was that my skin was less shiny, so it seems to have reduced sebum production.
After a few more days I felt like my skin looked a bit more glowy. Now I am three weeks in, it’s definitely brighter.
My skin also feels more soft and it’s made a difference to the texture as it seems to be more even.
I really wasn’t expecting to notice much this early on, so it’s good to be able to see a difference. I’ve yet to see a change in hyperpigmentation, but it’s still early days so I’m interested to see if it does help with this.
This is a higher end product than I usually use and more expensive than the other skincare I tend to buy.
Is it worth it? It’s a bit of a piece of string question, I think.
This is out of my usual price range for skincare, so it’s not something I would reinvest in. However, I think it’s worth it if you can comfortably afford to spend this much on skincare, it’s definitely a product that works and my skin likes it. If you are in the market for a new antioxidant within this price range, I would recommend it.
I am looking forward to seeing what this product will continue to do over time as I’ve been surprised to see a difference at this early stage.
Have you tried this one? What did you think?
