We’ve recently received Salina Yoon’s latest picture book, Stormy Night…
When thunder shakes his house and rain pounds the windows, Bear is frightened. But comforting his Mama, Papa and Floppy helps make the storm seem not as scary. Before Bear knows it, the storm has passed, because even storms need their sleep … and so do bears.
A hugely heartwarming tale about the fear of thunder and how to overcome it.
Salina Yoon is fast becoming a favourite of mine. I adore her ‘Penguin…’ series and this latest book follows on from the oh-so-sweet Found.
This book is short enough to hold Little Man’s attention at 2, with just a few words on each page, and the story interesting enough for Boo, at 5, to enjoy. In fact, as it’s just a few words a page, it’s a great book for her to practice her own newly acquired reading skills as she likes to read it to her little brother and I.
Bear is a little unsure of the storm that is raging around their home in the woods, but he’s contentedly distracted looking after his bunny and parents, ensuring that they are not too scared.
It’s wonderfully illustrated, as you can see, full of bright colours and bold pictures. I do find Bear’s character to be very endearing, and there’s something so sweet about seeing him here with his Floppy bunny, too, whom he formed a strong attachment to in the previous book, Found. It’s nice to know that they’re still good friends!
It’s a book that puts me in mind of snuggles and cuddles, and one that both of my children and I have been enjoying.
Disclosure: We received this book FOC for the purposes of this review, though all words and opinions remain my own
I haven’t seen this book before but the illustrations look lovely, so colourful. It’s always great to find a book that both children will be interested in too x
It is really colourful, and yes, appealing to both kids 🙂 x
This book looks cute. The colours are amazing. Will have to look out for them when out and about.
Yes, really bright and bold. Lovely story.
