The Wicked Uncle Shopping Experience

We seem to be buying more and more children’s gifts here. I’ve really noticed the increase with Boo starting school and being invited to her classmates parties. I find that her school friends aren’t that easy to buy for, as I don’t yet know them that well and Boo gives me little or no indication of what they might like! This is where I can see children’s gift and toy shop, Wicked Uncle really coming into it’s own for me.

The first thing that struck me when I visited their website is how differently the shop is ordered. Typically when I buy for children online, there will be categories of toys, such as building and construction, outdoor, dolls and prams and so on. However with Wicked Uncle, you’ll search for gifts by putting in the details of the recipient, for example, a 2 year old boy. I like this, when I have no real clue what I’m going to get as it provides me with inspiration and plenty of ideas and suggestions.

Once you’ve selected who the gift is for, an impressive number of options come up, ranked in order of popularity, though you can change this to lowest/highest price, too, if you prefer. There is also a search box, so if you already know what you’d like to get, you can use that option.

I spent some time choosing for my two, and it was very handy using the filters supplied. Boo helped me to pick the items, and this is what we went for…

I loved the diversity of products available. We settled on a big stencil set for girls. a set of hand-painted mini farm animals and Ladybird World.

Boo has been spending some time with the stencil set, which has lots of stencils and comes with plenty of paper, too…

The farm animals can frequently be found scattered about the playroom and living room, though any attempt at capturing them photographically is thwarted by Little Man grabbing them and moving them on! And thus far, we’ve yet to find two ladybirds to put in their new home. It’s a good kit, with a very handy information booklet inside telling me things that I really did not know about ladybirds. We managed to find one the other day, but agreed that we needed at least two in there so they’d be happy, so had to release it again. Both children are fascinated with this, and though we’ve yet to use the habitat, it’s already proved fun for them as they have spent lots of time out in the garden hunting with their equipment, which they were doing and discussing here…

Happy, contented kids, lovely gifts.

When ordering, you can also add to send a card and have it gift-wrapped, so if you’re sending it on, this saves you time and energy in receiving the present, only to send it back out into the post anyway. I like that touch. The gift also arrives with a thank you card all ready for the recipient to use..

It’s a different shopping experience, which I think sets it apart from many retailers.

Overall I was pleased with the ease of using the website, the speed of delivery, the concept behind it and the children are very happy with the choices they made. I would recommend checking out Wicked Uncle.

Disclosure: We received items FOC for the purposes of writing this review, though all words and opinions remain my own.

  1. I just popped over to check the website out and I LOVE it! I am always clueless as to what to get kids for different ages as a FTM with a 11 month old, I just don’t know much about what they like at what ages so this is fantastic, and what a diverse range of products! Great review! #triedtested

  2. What a fantastic site…I haven’t heard of it before. It has now been added to my favourites as I always struggle when I’m buying for children I don’t really know.

  3. Ohhh this sounds like a handy site. I hope you get to use your ladybird world soon, I just bought the Snail World in Tesoc clearance to put away for a Christmas gift x

  4. This looks like a great site to shop. I like how it narrows down the gifts on age and gender rather than categories, because like you, sometimes you don’t know what you’re looking for x #TriedTested

  5. Love the mix of products you tried, especially the stencil set and the ladybird world. Sounds like a really good site for getting gift ideas when you don’t know the children so well – especially being able to search by age and see what kind of things are popular. Love the thank you card that comes with it as well – what a good idea 🙂

  6. What a fantastic shop! I know that this will definitely come in handy in the future – I find buying presents in general quite challenging, so shopping for children is going to be so hard! xx
