Theming Your Happy Mail

Is this something you do? Theme your happy mail? I know many of you do, and I’m sure some of you are like me in that sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t! Today I thought I’d share with you a few ideas of ways that you can theme your happy mail.

As I always say, you don’t need to do this if you have pen pals. I never want to put anyone off starting this hobby because they think it requires more than simply writing a letter and starting up a friendship that way. That’s the basis of sending happy mail, sharing your news in a chatty letter.

This is for those of you who like to decorate and theme your mail and any extras you might like to send.

Seasonal Theming

This one’s fun as there are always plenty of different seasons and holidays rolling round for you to play around with.

The seasons give us lots to play with, as they can all be interpreted differently and you can have fun customising them to your vision of the time.

For example, autumn might be simply indicated by using some oranges, browns and reds on your letter and envelope.

Or you might choose to add some ‘cosy’ stickers, pumpkin spice latte doodles, rolls of washi tape with leaves, sweater season pictures. It’s up to you, and that’s the fun of it.

You could work with one of the four seasons, or perhaps be more specific with a holiday or occasion.

Valentine’s Day, Halloween, Christmas, or perhaps your friend’s birthday. There are so many options to play with seasonal mail, it’s a fun one to throw yourself into.

Don’t forget to look out for seasonal things on any junk mail, free leaflets and magazines. These can be great for cutting up and decorating your mail with.

Colour Theming

This one’s nice and easy to do. Just choose a colour and theme everything around that. Or you could pick a colour palette, with the same principle.

You can just use coloured pens and pencils to do this, or paper scraps, stickers, washi tape, ephemera, whatever you have!

You can keep the theme going from the envelope to the letter itself and maybe even any extras if you’re choosing to send some.

This one can be fun if you know your pen pals favourite colour, but don’t worry if you don’t, just pick a colour and go for it.

Hobbies Theming

Does your pen pal love yoga? Or wildlife? Or gardening? Or books? Pick a hobby or interest and theme with it.

There are so many options with this one, aren’t there?

Again, you could choose to theme it around something you know your pen pal loves, something you love, something that’s particularly relevant at the moment to you, or a theme that you have in your supplies.

Look for supplies to add to your stash regularly. I don’t just mean buying things (though I know so many of you enjoy stationery shopping!), I mean picking up free papery things when you’re out and about and not wasting things you might have at home, like gift wrap or mail that can be re-purposed.

And don’t forget, I do have plenty of themed mail over in my pen pal stationery store, available to simply download and print now, so you can always use packs from there too.

I hope this has given you some new ideas to try, or perhaps just reminded you of things you’ve done before and now want to do again.
