This year, I’d say that the closest I’ve come to ‘resolutions’ are these. They’re more feelings and thoughts to help guide me, I’d say.
I don’t tend to set hard and fast rules, I just like to think of things that I’d like to do more of, less of, or new things. These can crop up at any time throughout the year, but it just happens to be January, so here’s where I’m at today.
There are three things I want to do more of this year…
Dream More
They say ‘dream big’, but I just say ‘dream’.
I’ve thought of things I’d like to do, big and small, and I’m having fun starting to make them happen.
Whether you’re wanting to add a little shelf filled with house plants, to take that day trip you’ve been meaning to take, to treat yourself to a coffee out every Friday, whatever it is that you think will brighten your days and you’re daydreaming about, go do it. And if you are dreaming big and that does mean a round the world trip, book that too!
Learn More
I love to learn new things. It makes me happy, it always has.
I have no plans (at this point, but who knows where the year will take me?!) to go back to any formal education, I’m talking about the smaller things that interest me.
Little things that make me smile and make me engage with something new, new people, new ideas.
Learning new things is not to be underrated for our health and happiness, so what would you like to learn about?
Laugh More
I mean, this is probably one for us all, isn’t it? Who would set out to deliberately laugh less?
We know that laughter is good for us, and you just feel lighter when you laugh, don’t you?
I want to seek this one out, I want to surround myself with those people who do make me smile, watch things that I know will make me giggle, and fortunately, the kids can always make me laugh so I’ll drink them in!
These are all things that can be sprinkled throughout the days and weeks. Of course there’ll be bigger things that I love such as holidays or get togethers with friends and family, but I don’t want to wish time away waiting for those things. I want to enjoy most days, and when it’s a tough day and I’m feeling all the feelings, these are the things that can be drawn upon to pick me back up when I’m ready for them.
What would you want to do ‘more’ this year?
Hi Jocelyn, Jen here. I’m along for the ride and have similar thoughts about resolutions as you do. I have a lot of health concerns and so dreaming, learning, laughter, connection, and creativity are my main ongoing goals along with managing the body stuff , which those are all ways of doing things that make body feel more comfortable by giving distractions and a direction for energy to go.
They’re great goals, to keep us going and to help feel more comfortable, as you say. I hope you’re getting on well with them x
