Write It Down

Of course I am going to advocate writing things down, I love pen and paper! And it seems I’m not alone, as there are plenty of good reasons to ‘write it down’.

Journaling for your mental health

This one has been very well documented, particularly in recent times when mental health is being talked about so much more.

It’s been shown to help with anxiety, depression and trauma, along with helping you to simply make sense of your thoughts each day.

The act of journaling gives you a moment of focus, a moment just for you to gather your thoughts. And in some cases, such as stream of consciousness journaling, your thoughts could be all jumbled up and don’t really come out until you try something like this.

Gratitude journals are also a popular way to boost your daily mood, and take little to no time to get into doing.

If this idea tempts you, you might want to try one of these Positivity Journals

List making to help you keep on top

There are numerous benefits of list making, from helping you to remember things to decision making to saving time and more. The list goes on!

I don’t think I’d manage without my lists, to be honest. They ensure I stay organised, focused and they give me that sense of achievement when I tick things off. I have long used a bullet journal for my lists.

My journal is filled with daily to do lists, monthly task lists and then lists for anything else I might be needing to arrange at the time – packing lists, gift lists, and the like.

I shared this post on getting started with a bullet journal if this is something you want to try. If this seems too much for you, just grab a notebook and use it for list making each day. You’ll feel better once you get those thoughts out into a list.

If this ideas appeals to you, I’d suggest one of these notebooks to start a bullet journal. There are loads of colours to choose from, and these are the ones I usually get.

Letter writing for making connections

OK, I love my lists and keeping journals, but this one is probably the best ‘write it down’ for me.

Writing letters and having pen pals is a great hobby. It’s fun to put mail together, it’s great when you receive a letter in the post, and most importantly, it’s lovely to make new friendships this way.

I’ve been writing to some of my pen pals for years, others just months, but the thing they all have in common is that they feel like friends all over the globe. Sitting down to read their letters is a lovely catch up, hearing all of their news and then a chance for me to sit down, slow down, and share mine.

Letter writing is about making connections and I shared Why Have A Pen Pal? a little while back.

Our Bring Back Paper Facebook group is a great place to go to find a pen pal and then my store is filled with printable pen pal sets, so you can get started with this hobby straightaway if you’d like to.

An excuse to top up your stationery supplies

I know that so many of us love stationery. Of course we do, it’s fabulous. By writing things down, you will absolutely be able to justify needing to keep yourself well stocked and supplier in papery goodness. Browsing and choosing stationery, starting that new notebook, topping up your pen pot, all little treats to make us smile.

I do write things down every day. Whether I’m logging a book I’ve just read in my book journal, setting out my daily to-do list in my bullet journal or penning a letter to a friend, I am often reaching for that ink. It certainly keeps me sane, something to try?

How often do you write things down?
