This week, Boo has received a couple of copies of Amazing! magazine to review…
It’s designed for boys and girls aged 7+ and it covers most subjects such as Maths, English, Science, History, Geography Arts, and lots more.
We take things that children actually like reading about such as zombies, aliens, cheesy feet etc and link these in clever and humorous ways back to the national curriculum. In this way, children get to read things of interest to them, and all along they’re learning about the things that matter – there’s nothing else quite like it on the planet!
Amazing! is a monthly 36 page publication packed with articles, facts, stories …. And an annual subscription is just £49 for 12 issues.
The first things that I noticed about Amazing! magazine were the great quality thick, bright pages and the fact that there are no adverts in it at all. It is just packed with stories, facts and activities, with something to learn and discover on every page.
The issues are themed, and we received Ancient Rome and Human Body editions. As you can see from the contents pages below, the themes are taken and each key area of the curriculum is covered using them.
Here are a couple of page spreads to give you a feel for the information, illustrations, and how the themes are adapted for different subjects.
This is a magazine aimed at children aged 7 and up, but my 3 year old Little Man has also enjoyed looking through it, and is particularly taken with a page all about bogies, where he can also make his own bowl of snot and bogies – delightful! He shows everyone that page first now, and has commandeered that magazine for himself forever more.
Boo at 6, has been totally engrossed in both of these, as you can probably tell from the photo. She even ignored her snack in favour of reading them, so that’s definitely a good sign! She’s read them both cover to cover and tells me that they are brilliant. When I mentioned to her the possibility of a monthly subscription, she frowned which surprised me, but then explained herself by telling me that no, she didn’t want a monthly copy, she wanted one every day! I’d say that’s a very positive endorsement from Boo.

It is different to other magazines and some interesting facts
I like the fact that it is educational, yet in the form of a magazine. I think that my son is much more likely that my son would pick it up and read it this way.

I have seen a similar magazine called Aquilia but this is more bold in the prresentation.
The colourful pictures will keep the kids focused while you read to them.

It does indeed look amazing! Haven’t seen it before but it would be perfect for our very inquisitive 7 yr old girlie and far more educational than the usual kids mags. Such inquiring minds need lots of stimulation and this looks perfect.
Lots of interesting facts and cartoon like pictures which my 9 year old son would find enjoyable.
